How the Game of Golf Started
The Golf sport originated from the eastern coast of Scotland, close to the royal capital of Edinburgh. It started then as just having players attempt to hit a pebble over sand dunes and around tracks using a bent stick or club.

The golf sport was however banned then by the Scottish parliament of King James II in 1457. Many people largely ignored the ban, until 1502 when the golf sport gained the royal seal of approval during then reign of King James IV of Scotland who became the world’s first golfing monarch.
The golf sport became a very popular on across Europe in the 16th century and officially became a sport when the Gentlemen Golfers of Leith formed the first club in 1744.
One of the premier golf courses of the day was at Leith near Edinburgh which hosted the first international golf match in 1682, when the Duke of York and George Patterson representing Scotland, beat two English noblemen. The first18-hole course was said to have been constructed at St Andrews in 1764, which led to an establishment of a new standard for the game of golf. The club was titled by King William IV as the ‘Royal & Ancient’ in 1834, with that recognition and its fine course the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews was established as the world’s premier golf club.

Golf sport, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not utilize a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. The game at the usual level is played on a course with an arranged progression of 18 holes, though recreational courses can be smaller, often having nine holes. Each hole on the course must contain a teeing ground to start from, and a putting green containing the actual hole or cup 4+1⁄4 inches (11 cm) in diameter. There are other standard forms of terrain in between, such as the fairway, rough (long grass), bunkers (or “sand traps”), and various hazards (water, rocks) but each hole on a course is unique in its specific layout and arrangement.
Golf sport is played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known as stroke play, or the lowest score on the most individual holes in a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play. Stroke play is the most commonly seen format at all levels, but most especially at the elite level.

Over the years since its invention, golf sport has grown and witness serval phase of development as new inventions and innovations are being introduced to the sports all in the bid to make it easier and more enjoyable for players and fans around the world.

In 2001, the Putt and Reel was introduced to then golf game as an aid equipment. It is meant to take away the stress of having to walk over to the ball, bend over and pick it up when working on your putting. Its golf ball is attached to a 10-pound fishing line and can be retrieved using the reel.
In 2006, the Laser Putter was also introduced. Electronically assisted putting offered by Restoration Hardware and a Frontage clip near the head of a club and shoots a red laser-beam guide up to 500 yards away. Basically, it has been the dream of many golf players in the past.
In 2008, the floppy was also introduced, and it is a soft-sided “indoor golf ball” which is intended to be a less destructive alternative to the standard version for players who want to practice at home. It has a crocheted exterior which surrounds a hollow rubber ball filled with beads, giving it the feel of a firm Hacky Sack. Each one is handmade in China.
